Child abduction leads to death investigation in Maryland

GREENSBORO, Md. – All is quiet now along Greensboro Road, but that wasn’t the case over the weekend.

Saturday night police were called to the 13,000 block of Greensboro Road for a report of an attempted child abduction that ended with one child safe, and one man dead in police custody. Drugs are believed to be a factor.

According police, when they arrived they saw 19 year-old Antone Black dragging a 12 year-old boy by the arm down the street and told him to release the child.

Black complied, but also made a plea to officers, telling them that he loved that child and that he was his brother.

Elena Russo with the Maryland State Police said, “The 19 year-old told police they were related and the young boy screamed no we’re not related at all.”

Shortly after, police say Black took off running after he was told to put his hands behind his back.

That chase led them to Black’s home where he tried to fight off officers.

Russo also said, “When the 19 year-old was trying to be restrained, that’s when he lashed out at officers, biting them. He struck one in the face.”

Police say despite that, they were able to restrain him without using excessive force, but things would soon take a turn for the worst.

Russo said, “At the time that the officers were putting Mr. Black into his handcuffs and ankle restraints they noticed signs of medical distress. They noticed a change in his breathing and his pulse.”

Black would go unconscious. Despite EMS administering CPR and Narcan, the 19-year-old wasn’t able to be revived.

Russo said, “Certainly loss of life is always a sad and tragic circumstance to come out of an incident like this, but that’s why our investigators are really doing a thorough job awaiting information from witnesses as well as toxicology results because that will reveal a lot of what was going on that night.”
