Ceiling collapses, leaves two injured in Dewey Beach

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – Police report that a ceiling collapse leaves two people injured.

A 79 year-old man and a 68 year-old woman were sleeping in their bed when sheets of drywall and insulation suddenly fell on top of them, according to police.

Authorities say the couple was able to escape from underneath the materials and first responders took them to a nearby hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Dewey Beach Police Department reports the incident occurred at the ocean block of Read Ave on Saturday at approximately 12:07 A.M

Police, The Dewey Beach Building Official, and Sussex County Building Code Office are investigating the possible cause for the collapse.
