Brief vehicle chase leads to arrest of a fugitive
DOVER, Del. – A wanted individual has been arrested following a short vehicle pursuit in Dover.
At approximately 2:31 PM on Saturday, Dover Police Department officers on patrol observed 21-year-old Shakur Peck driving a white Lexus near the area of New Street and Cecil Street. After running a computer check, officers discovered that Peck was wanted on numerous charges, including possession of a firearm by person prohibited, theft of a firearm, theft under $1,500, and failure to re-register as a sex offender.
When officers attempted to stop Peck’s vehicle, he fled, leading to a short vehicle chase. Peck eventually stopped and was taken into custody without incident. Three other occupants of the vehicle were detained briefly but were not charged.
In addition to his outstanding warrants, Peck was charged with disreguard police officer signal, resisting arrest, driving while suspended, reckless driving, and multiple traffic violations. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI).
