Blood Bank of Delmarva: Emergency need for donations before Hurricane Florence strikes
SALISBURY, Md. – The Blood Bank of Delmarva has issued an emergency declaration. The blood bank tells 47 ABC blood supply has depleted to critical lows and they need public’s help.
With Hurricane Florence slowly approaching the East Coast, the blood bank severely needs donors to prepare for the incoming hurricane.
Eventhough there’s a chance Florence won’t hit our area, since her path is projected to hit between the Carolinas and the Eastern Shore, The blood bank wants to take every precautionary step to keep people safe.
Officals say newly donated blood is highly perishable so constant replenishment is needed to have an ample supply.
Michelle Hart-Henry, CIO for Blood Bank of Delmarva said, “Our goal is to always maintain a seven-day supply of blood in our inventory so we can meet the needs of patients in hospitals throughout the Delmarva region. With the hurricane coming up the coast, its even more important for us to have everything that we need in our inventory.”
Every day, 350 blood donors are needed to support patient needs throughout the region.
