Adjusting pets for back to school schedules
SALISBURY, Md. – As families get back into the swing of things for the school year, veterinarians are reminded people to not to forget about your four legged friends at home.
As kids start a new school year with a new schedule, pets can sometimes be pushed to the side.
This can cause anxiety issues, especially with the changing in schedules and the environment. Pets can also pick up on anxieties the family is feeling too.
Now this is more of an issue with pets who are used to routines or used to being around the kids.
Dr. Michael Peters of Johnson-McKee Animal Hospital says, “All of a sudden they’ve been used to that kid being there for three or four months and then they’re gone and it’s difficult some of my clients actually include the pets in the trips to get the kids when they go pick them up.”
We’re told doing things like that are a great way to include your pet in the changes that are happening and has seen to be a very positive thing for both the kids and the pets.
