Police: Molotov cocktail style device found in Del. church
SEAFORD, Del. – An investigation is ongoing after police say an attempted arson was reported at a Seaford church.
The Seaford Police Department says on Monday, officers responded to the Miracle Revival Center Church located in the 800 Block of Sussex Avenue for a reported attempted arson.
Once on scene, police say they met with the pastor, Isaac Ross, who discovered the glass broken from a doorway into the church when he arrived earlier. Law enforcement reports that a molotov cocktail style device was found lying on the floor inside of the church.
It’s a device that could have left the place in pieces, but the good news is the bottle didn’t break so the fire didn’t ignite.
Pastor Ross says it’s a blessing it didn’t, but questions remain as to why this happened in the first place.
“I cried a little bit because who would want to destroy our church, you know, why would somebody do that to us. We’re here to help and serve the community, we want to serve the city and citizens of our community.”
Just like Pastor Ross, authorities are confused and trying to figure out why someone would do this. Unfortunately, there aren’t any security cameras on the grounds so police have their work cut out for them.
Authorities believe the incident happened between 2:00 PM on Sunday and and 11:30 AM on Monday.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to call the Seaford Police Department at 302-629-6644 extension 236 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
