Woman dies nearly a month after Del. crash; investigation ongoing

FELTON, Del.  – A 19-year-old woman has died after troopers say she was injured in a crash that happened nearly a month ago in Felton.

Delaware State Police say on Friday, Terri Bruinton of Ellendale, died as a result of injuries she sustained from a crash that happened on July 30. Officials say Bruinton had an extended stay at Christiana Medical Center as result of the crash.

Troopers say just before 9:00 AM, the Ellendale woman was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on Canterbury Road (SR15), just north of Roseville Road (CR 387). Authorities say a 2013 Dodge Avenger was traveling southbound on Canterbury Road north of Roseville Road, when the Cavalier crossed into the southbound lane. Investigators say the vehicle then struck the left front bumper and side of the Avenger.

According to the report, after the impact, the cavalier spun in a counter-clockwise direction before coming to a final rest on the shoulder. The Avenger continued southbound and rotated in a counter-clockwise direction before coming to a stop in the roadway.

Law enforcement reports that Bruinton was not wearing a seatbelt and she was initially taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital before being transferred to Christiana Medical Center.

DSP says the 56-year-old Houston, the driver of the Avenger, was wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to  the Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit.
