Vaccine preventable diseases a threat as school begins

A lot of parents feel that they don’t need to vaccinate children. The CDC reports most “vaccine preventable diseases” are spread if you come in contact with someone who has not been vaccinated.
That means if one of your children come in contact with another child infected with vaccine prevented disease, like measles, at school or your child comes in contact with a child who has not had their shots, your child could be at risk for disease.
Even with the CDC warnings, some parents don’t want to vaccinate their kids.
For parents that don’t feel they need to vaccinate their children, Kelly Shockley a nurse at Wicomico County Health Center, tells us to check your facts before making that decision.
Shockley said, "Overall studies have shown vaccines are very safe it is the key to preventing very serious deadly diseases and we encourage all parents to look at all the facts and consider vaccines as well as talk to pediatricians."
Health officials in Maryland and Delaware remind parents that while some may feel afraid to vaccinate their children for whatever reason, it's still always a good idea to read up on immunization facts before making the decision not to vaccinate.
