A horse was euthanized on Wednesday after officials say it was recently involved in a vehicle accident in Worcester County.

Assateague Island National Seashore officials say the two-year-old stallion involved in a motor vehicle accident last week on Assateague Island had to be humanely euthanized. Officials say the horse was reported down in the salt marsh and unable to stand early Wednesday morning.

The horse was injured was as a result of a vehicle accident that happened  on route 611 on August 6.

According to the report, animal's death  brings the total population of the Maryland herd to 78 horses, including 20 stallions and 58 mares.

Officials report that the National Park Service completes a full census of the Maryland Horse population six times per year.
