SUSSEX CO., Del. – The Sussex County Zoning and Planning Commission meets this week and they will be discussing a hot button issue, the Oak Landing Proposal.

A developer recently submitted an application to turn a 60 acre cornfield located directly between Captains Grant and Orchard Manor communities into another housing development.

Some residents say they’re excited about the potential for a new development in the are,- but other’s aren’t so pleased. In fact, the development has many up in arms.

They say they don’t need any more development in the area and that the road can’t handle any more traffic.

Ginger Moore, a concerned resident said, “They just want to jump on another development and I think we need to think about the area that we can handle as far as the traffic and also about the environment. Why do you we always have to have another development?”

Representative Ruth Briggs King has sent a letter to a commissioner voicing concerns of residents.

She has also asked the council to “Consider deferring the vote on the Oak Landing proposal until next month when residents have had more time to learn about the plan and express their overall concerns to the Commission.”

The council meeting will be held at 6PM on Thursday.

If you have any concerns, or you want to support to the development, you are encouraged to attend.
