Sussex County raises opioid epidemic awareness through “Sussex Goes Purple” campaign

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – In the first state, the Sussex County Health Coalition has decided to go purple, along with other counties across Delmarva. Sussex Goes Purple is a substance abuse awareness initiative.
The Sussex County Health Coalition is behind this effort. It’s based on the Project Purple, an initiative of “The Herren Project”, which is a non-profit foundation by former NBA basketball player, Chris Herren, who was a former drug addict.
Herren assists individuals and families struggling with addiction.
We’re told the kick off of “Sussex Goes Purple” will be September 11th. Chris Herren will be a speaker at Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown at 7 PM.
The Sussex County Health Coalition is also asking everyone in the community to help turn the county purple starting on the kick off date.
