Somerset County rains purple

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Somerset County is doing something they’ve never done before to fight against opiates and addiction, they’re raining purple.

It’s a campaign to raise awareness about the opioid epidemic that’s plaguing our communities here on the shore.

Somerset County Emergency Services is asking community members and businesses to take the pledge,  to rain purple the color of overdose awareness.

It’s a new strategy and possibly the first step towards hope and recovery.

“We’re starting a conversation so every time we do something and the businesses start putting it in their windows and people say ‘Oh I like that why’d you do that, why’d you pick that it?’ opens the door for those conversations that we should be having at every age,” explains Victoria Lloyd, Somerset Emergency Planner.

The county has asked businesses even boats at Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield to decorate their storefronts and boat slips in purple during the entire month of September.
