Selbyville lowers speed limits due to public safety issues

SELBYVILLE, Del. – The town of Selbyville lowered speed limits as a result of safety concerns in residential areas.
The town says in the area of route 113 southbound and cemetery road the limit will lower from 55 to 50 miles per hour.
Selbyville will also lower the limit on lighthouse road and route 54.
They’re lowering the limit from 50 in the residential area of Selbyville to 35 miles per hour. The town is also extending the 35 mile per hour limit due to a high volume of cars entering and exiting a development in the area.
Ken Crum, a Selbyville driver says lowering the limits are a bad idea. Instead of lowering it, Ken says the town ought to raise the limit since traffic is so bad in that area to begin with.
Crum said, “There’s no reason why it shouldn’t be bumped up.We got so many more cars on the road, I think by raising it it would do more good than harm.”
The town says it will still listen to resident’s complaints about the traffic volume issue. They also want to remind drivers and residents that the limits will remain at where the town mandates. Their ultimate priority is public safety
