Residents asked to write concerns down regarding potential Oak Orchard expansion

Residents packed the Indian River Volunteer Fire Department to voice their concerns about the proposed plan to build more housing in the Oak Orchard community.

Instead of getting to speak to officials, residents were asked to write down their concerns and were told that someone would get back to them at a later date.

Among the concerns locals have voiced are that continuing expansion along Oak Orchard Road will lead to more and more traffic and noise for locals.

"I will get that to the county for you and tell them we had a bunch of concerned citizens over some of the proposed growth and development, and get them to respond and if I have your email address.  If I get a response I will share that with you in turn," said Rep. Ruth Briggs-King, of District 37.

Outrage began when resident learned of an application that was recently submitted by a developer to turn a 60-acre cornfield into another housing development that would be built directly between Captain's Grant and Orchard Manor communities.
