Rabies positive kitten reported in Worcester County
GIRDLETREE, Md. – Worcester County health officials report that another animal in the area has tested positive for rabies.
The Worcester County Health Department says on Wednesday, a rabies-positive kitten was tested on Snow Hill Rd (Rt. 12), north of Girdletree. Officials say the gray, black and tan striped tabby was roughly eight-weeks-old.
According to the report, the owner of the kitten is unknown at this time and there may have been other animals and individuals that may have had contact with the kitten.
Anyone who believes that they or their pets has had contact with the infected kitten is asked to call the Worcester County Health Department at 410-641-9559 or the Worcester County Emergency Services (after hours or weekend) at 410-632-1311.
Individuals should seek immediate medical care if they are bitten or scratched by an animal.
