Police investigate fatal hit and run crash

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal hit and run crash in Worcester County that claimed the life of one person and injured several others.

Maryland State Police say just before 5 PM on Friday troopers responded to a three vehicle crash on the 9000 block of Whaleyville Road, near the Whaleyville Animal Hospital.

According to witnesses, a man and woman got out of an overturned Dodge minivan and fled the crash scene. 

Further investigation revealed the minivan was driving on Whaleyville Road when it crossed over onto the wrong side of the road directly into the path of two oncoming vehicles.

According to police, 75-year-old Sharon Bonewell died of her injuries after she was taken to the hospital.

Two passengers sustained serious injuries and a driver and another passenger also had to be treated.
