Police: Drivers beware of children and school buses on roadways

It's back to school season and that means  you may see more school busses out on the roadways. That's why police are urging drivers to be wary of their surroundings.

Dover police tell us you need to keep an eye out for children out along the road. Master Corporal Mark Hoffman tells us children may not be aware of jay-walking and road crossing laws in Delaware.

That's why its up to drivers to be aware of children entering and exiting school busses.

Master Corporal Mark Hoffman said, “It’s obviously very important to be cognizant of your surroundings obey the laws in school zones.”

Cpl. Hoffman also said, “Even if the school bus is on the opposite side of the road, it’s still required that you stop.”

Corporal Hoffman also says if you violate school bus laws and pass a bus unlawfully you can be fined as much as $230  plus a possible license suspension for up to 12 months.
