Overdose awareness spotlighted in the Circle
The Circle in Georgetown was lit up in purple to raise awareness and support overdose survivors, and to honor those who did not survive.
Tables were set up with information on how to spot an overdose, and literature on how to use Narcan.
Speakers took turns at center stage to talk about triumphs and tragedies. A wall of remembrance was on hand with pictures of loved ones, and gave people who attended the ability to write messages.
“It’s important to get the community together along with the addicts, and show them that we care and we give them support and we’ll help them any way we can to try to get rid of this disease,” said Goergetown Mayor Bill West. “Because it is just destroying not only Georgetown, but the State of Delaware and across the country.”
This awareness day comes on the heels of a report from the Department of Health and Social Services that Sussex saw more than half of all the overdoses in the State of Delaware in the month of July.
