It's a boy! Officials say there is a new foal at the Assateague Island National Seashore Park.

The National Park Service says N9BM-J ("Giggles") gave birth to a pinto colt on Friday morning. Officials say the new foal , N9BM-JQ, and the other wild horses live most of the year in the very busy developed area and campgrounds. NPS says the foal will will learn how to interact with the environment from Giggles and other members of his band.

NPS officials are reminding visitors to remain a minimum of a bus length (40 ft) away from the wild horses at all times as mare will be quite protective of her new foal.

Visitors should give the animals plenty of space when visiting the park.
