National Adult Immunization Week: Which shots do you need?

SALISBURY, Md. – Have you had your shots? Sure you may have the kids vaccinated as they head back to school, but adults need to get vaccinated just as much as kids.

Monday kicks of national adult immunization week and officials are reminding adults that there are vaccines you need to keep up with to keep yourself and others around you healthy and protected from illness.

For example, if you’re nearing the age of 50 and you have had chicken pox in the post, you should take the shingles vaccine.

Healthcare professionals recommend the pneumonia vaccinated influenza vaccines as well.

You should also get a tetanus shot every ten years if you are exposed to the outdoors or machinery while on the  job.

Craig Schury a pharmacist says vaccines are always a good idea.

Schury said, “In general It’s just good policy and good for everyone else around you, not just yourself. Between shingles and whooping cough, adults need to be vaccinated to make sure that they don’t spread any kind of problems to young children.”

If you aren’t sure what vaccines you need to be up to date on, pharmacists say you should consult your doctor to keep you healthy.
