Md. State Highway Administration: Expect heavy traffic for Labor Day Weekend

MARYLAND – For Labor Day Weekend, there’s always an influx of visitors heading to the beach and the Maryland State Highway Administration is reminding drivers to expect heavy traffic for the holiday.
Since students started to go back to school after Labor Day, families are trying to squeeze in one more vacation, so SHA expects more cars on the road.
We’re told starting Friday until Tuesday, there will be no lane closures for any construction, so that won’t cause any delays.
But as far as avoiding the heaviest traffic times, SHA tells 47 ABC that it’s hard to detect since it has changed in the last couple of years.
District Community Liaison Bob Rager says, “It used to be go to Friday afternoon to the beach, come back late Sunday or early Monday. We’re still seeing that but we’re seeing motorists spread that a little more, so we’re seeing a little more traffic westbound Monday afternoon more traffic eastbound Thursday afternoon.”
SHA reminds you to leave early and pack some patience. Beyond that, check your vehicles before hitting the road. A quick inspection can reduce a breakdown and will keep lanes free and clear.
