Man hospitalized after Del. shooting; investigation ongoing

GREENWOOD, Del.  – A man was shot on Wednesday night after troopers say he heard a woman screaming nearby in Greenwood.

Delaware State Police just after 1:50 AM, troopers responded to the 100 block of Unity Lane for a late-reported shooting. Once on scene, Troopers learned that a 55-year-old man was shot in his  lower extremity. DSP says the man had been shot on Wednesday sometime between 10:30 PM and 11:00 PM.

After further investigation, authorities say the victim was outside of his residence when he heard a woman screaming near an abandoned house. According to the report, the victim then walked towards the screaming when he noticed it to be coming from inside of a dark colored pick-up truck. law enforcement says the victim approached the vehicle to check on the occupants when someone fired a single gunshot from inside of the truck.

Troopers report that the man went back to his residence where he realized he was shot. He was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for a single gunshot wound.

DSP Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this incident.
