KFC has a special prize for the first baby born on Sept. 9

KFC Baby Harland Contest

47 ABC – Kentucky Fried Chicken is offering customers a once in a lifetime deal, but it’s not available on the menu.

The chain restaurant says it will give $11,000 to the first baby born on September 9. But that new baby has to be named “Harland”, in honor of the fast-food company’s founder (and now mascot), Colonel Sanders who was born on September 9, 1890.

KFC tweeted on Wednesday, “It’s a great name for your baby. Just say it out loud. Harland. Plus, your greatly named kid could get $11,000 for college.”

According to a press release, the gift of $11,000 is “in honor of KFC’s 11 herbs and spices”.

KFC also posted a video on Twitter, saying “Bad News: Harland is a name that is on decline”. But then the tweet listed good news, including: “Harland is a great name…Old man names are cool again…Harland means ‘Meadow of the Hares'”.

The website will go live on Sept. 9 and stay open for 30 days. Parents must submit the name, date and time of their baby’s birth (via birth certificate, hospital records or other official record) along with their contact information.
