Keeping kids safe when they go back to school

SEAFORD, Del. – For parents of children who walk to school, police say you should  learn the route and walk it with your child before he or she heads back.

You should also make sure your kids know to use cross walks as well as sidewalks to avoid being hit by a vehicle during their morning school commute.

Police also say you should think twice before you make it painfully obvious who your child’s backpack belongs too.

Seaford Police Department Chief Robert Kracyla said, “If you lose your backpack it’s easy to identify it. But it’s also easy to identity for a child predator. That predator instantly knows your name”

Despite the predator risk — the chief tells us parents don’t have to feel worried when they send kids to school but it’s always a good idea to keep your child of the dangers that exist.
