Groundbreaking for solar project in OC accounts for 20% of the town’s energy

BERLIN, Md. – A major solar project is currently underway in Berlin but all of that solar energy will benefit Ocean City.
The ground breaking ceremony took place Monday for a 10 megawatt solar energy farm.
Constellation, an Exelon company, is the one behind this operation.
It will provide 20% of Ocean City’s annual energy use and it will actually run several of the town’s buildings such as Town Hall and the Convention Center.
It covers one hundred and thirteen acres with 30,000 solar panels. This project should significantly reduce carbon emissions.
10 megawatt system is going to offset 4,200 renewable metric tons of carbon dioxide, so this is renewable clean energy that’s emission free and that’s really where this carbon dioxide offset comes from. To give you an idea of what this means, the greenhouse gas equivalent of this is 899 passenger vehicles driven.
The solar farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year.
