Truck fire leads to police car crash

SEAFORD, Del. – A police patrol car was struck by a SUV earlier this morning in Seaford after police say the vehicle was shutting down driving lanes for a dump truck that was on fire.

According to the report, shortly after 9:00 AM, the Seaford Police Department responded to a call for a trash truck on fire at the intersection of Sussex Highway and Middleford Road. Officials say the fire necessitated the need for both lanes to be closed leading officers to park their cars and assist with the traffic flow.

Police are reporting that at 10:12 AM, as one of the patrol cars was parked with their emergency lights flashing, a white Dodge SUV then struck the unoccupied patrol car with its right bumper as the driver was attempting to reach Nanticoke Memorial Hospital because of a medical emergency.

Both the driver of the trash truck and the SUV were transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for unspecified injuries. No police officers were injured during the two accidents.

The Seaford Police Department would like to remind everyone that if they are having a medical emergency while driving, to pull over and call 911.
