Ceremony held to commemorate overdose awareness day
A ceremony was held in downtown Princess Anne Friday to commemorate Overdose Awareness Day.
The ceremony was held to give people a chance to remember those who were lost.
A guest speaker, who is still recovering from a heroin addiction, spoke to the crowd and shared a very personal message.
The battle still rages in Somerset where we’re told three more overdose deaths occurred this past weekend.
“Although we keep trying and trying, it’s not getting much better nationwide, but you’ve just got to keep educating and doing the outreach,” said Shannon Frey, the director of the Somerset Behavioral Health Authority. “And I think with that we can start seeing the numbers drop a little bit.”
Somerset will continue with events throughout the month of September as part of their Somerset County Rains Purple initiative.
