Car show seeks to raise money for local senior center

Cheers Car show raises money for senior center

Local classic car owners rolled up to the Cheer Community Center in Georgetown to show off their prized possessions.

Car aficionados of all ages, including a retired race car driver, gathered to check out engines and vehicles from all different decades.

We caught up with that retired race car driver who said for him, the event serves as a blast from past. The CEO of the Cheer Center said the event is crucial in allowing the cheer center to continue to help local seniors in need.

Walter Coopman said, “My background is automotive. I’ve raced in Europe and in this country as well so people like Steve McQueen a lot of other well known drivers.”

Bill Cheer, CEO Cheer Center said, “Cheers mission is to help senior citizens throughout Sussex County stay independent as well as be able to remain in their own homes and stay engaged and involved in their community.”

The Cheer Center prepares and sends out close to 17 hundred meals a day throughout Sussex County. The money raised from Saturday's event will go toward building a new kitchen in the senior center to bring even more meals to those in need.
