Beloved waitress in Ocean View gains community support after suffering an aneurysm

Cheryl Monroe, a well-loved waitress, has been working at the Ocean View Family Restaurant for 24 years, but she's currently clocked out.

After her brother passed away on August 7th of prostate cancer, Cheryl suffered an aneurysm the very next day. We're told she was in the shower and started vomiting and that's when she had the aneurysm.

Her friend, Michelle Reynolds says, "She has significant paralysis on the right side in the beginning and wasn't that responsive and little by little the swelling has gone down." Reynolds tells 47 ABC that Cheryl's recovery will be a long one.

From running schedules at the restaurant, to taking care of her mother and worrying about her brother, Cheryl continued to come to work every day with a smile. After working there for over two decades, Cheryl was serving so much more than food, she made friendships with Ocean View locals.

Tina Veves, who has been going to the restaurant for years tells us, "She knows us, she knows what we want to order, she's just so friendly and we are all upset with what's happened to her."

Her co-worker, Julie Carmean, considers her like a sister, "She is all about everybody but herself, she just cares about everybody."

Just to show their love and support, in a matter of days, donations came rolling in. Cheryl does not have health insurance, so every dollar counts.

A GoFundMe page was set up and in just four days, over $4,000 have been raised. Their goal is to raise $10,000 but they will most likely raise those costs. Besides the fundraising page, they are hosting a benefit for her on September 9th at Millville Fire Hall.

But more than anything, this family restaurant is just asking for prayers for their friend.
