Behavioral health hospital construction on schedule

The SUN Behavioral Hospital is on pace to open this fall, and we’re told the finishing touches are being put on the interior.

The hospital, capable of holding 90 beds, will open with 24 beds and add beds as the need presents itself.

The opening of this hospital to help with mental health comes on the heels of a Delaware Health and Social Services report that Sussex County saw the majority of overdoses in the state in the month of July.

“They’re not only going to do the mental illness, they’re going to do addiction,” said Georgetown Mayor Bill West. “And get people in there and treat them to see where they are, what they need and where they need to go from here. It’s not going to be a long term facility, but it’s going to be a help to handling some of the problems that we have in this town.”

The behavioral hospital is expected to open on time, on October 1st. The hospital will be located across the road from the Del Tech Georgetown campus.
