“Art Xpressions” art and craft show seeks to connect artists with the community

OCEAN CITY, Md. – “Art is something that enhances people’s lives in a lot of different ways.”

Rina Thayler believes art serves an important purpose here on the Eastern Shore.

The “Art Xpressions” art exhibition and craft show in Ocean City is a culmination of all things local.

It’s also a chance for artists and vendors up and down the eastern shore to make their mark at Northside Park.

While some use their craft as a source of extra income others, like craft breweries, aim to keep local business alive and well.

Anne McGinnis, a local beer brewer said, “The whole eastern shore is becoming a top ten craft beer destination.”

McGinnis also said, “All of the local restaurants and bars carry a lot of local craft beers, so we have a fabulous thing here. We have world class beers and world class beauty, so mixing that with the art festival it also brings in some millennials and younger people.”

From fine art to photography or even craft beer, at the art exhibition local artists and vendors channel their creativity to support the Art League of Ocean City.

Diane Greaser said, “I love the beach and I do a lot of beach-oriented type items so this is right up my genre.”

Rina Thayler, Director of the Ocean City Art League said, “Some of the art that you see here expresses where we live.”

Thayler believes local-based art brings the community together. A firm believer of art as an outlet for emotional expression, she says it’s a whole lot more than just paint brushes and canvases.

“It allows people to open their minds and open their hearts and bring joy to their lives. Art is healing. It soothes. Its contemplative. It’s emotive.”
