Weather impacts local waters in Ocean City

A mix of rain and heavy wind presented dangerous conditions to swimmers on Saturday in Ocean City, and as result beach patrol spent their day warning people to stay out of the rough water.
"The ocean is nasty today, nobody wants to be in there," said Ocean City Beach Patrol Captain, Butch Arbin.
"The problem is the current it's moving side to side, they're not going to be pulled out they're going to be knocked out by the waves," said Arbin.
According to Arbin, all the wind and rain caused an Ocean City staple, the 6th Annual Ocean Games, to be canceled.
"There were small craft warnings today, so we could not take our rescue craft out, the boats that are working with the Ocean Games, couldn't get out," said Arbin.
"We use paddle boards and kayaks and with the conditions today you just can't have some of those devices out in the ocean safely," he said.
The conditions this weekend could get even worse due to rip currents. Despite all of the warnings from the Ocean City Beach Patrol on Saturday, some people were still determined to enjoy the beaches rain or shine.
"We knew today was going to be crappy weather, but we just thought that even if it's crappy weather you can still make the most of it because we really don't go down here enough," said Tari Pecevich.
