UPDATE: Officials: Animals seized from property in Somerset County

Somerset County Sheriff Ronnie Howard confirmed that up to 60 dogs were seized from a dog breeder in Pocomoke Wednesday afternoon.

About a dozen cars were at the property, including a veterinarian who was documenting a report of what they found on the property.

Sheriff Howard says he was not on the scene, adding until that report is finalized we have no way of knowing the condition of the animals when they were seized or if charges will ultimately be filed.

The sheriff did mention that the owner did cooperate with authorities and was interviewed.

We spoke with a couple of neighbors who say this came as a shock.

"As far as I'm concerned, she was a real nice neighbor, nobody in this neighborhood has had any trouble with her," said Pocomoke resident John Blake.

"I don't know if it comes to a shock, it's just I was surprised to see  everything today, so I guess that is kind of shocking.  But I never expected anything over there.  They've always been nice people," said Pocomoke resident Ben Davis.

The investigation is in its infancy at this point, but as of Wednesday night the dogs that were seized are currently being housed at the Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset County Humane Society's.

The Somerset County Sheriff's Office says between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, they executed a search warrant at Jolindy's German Shepherds located on Hayward Road. Authorities say the warrant was executed after receiving an animal cruelty complaint.

According to officials, 40  to 60  dogs were seized from the property. The dogs are reportedly being held in Worcester, Somerset, and Wicomico counties. Authorities reportedly left the property around 4:00 PM.

This is an active investigation.
