Traffic stop leads to drug charges for Virginia man

Officials in Maryland have seized over 1,000 bags of heroin following a traffic stop in Berlin.

According to the report, on July 24, the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement team pulled over a car being driven by Jalil E. Pierce, 31 of Portsmouth, VA, for speeding. Deputies say that as they spoke with Pierce they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car prompting the officers to search the vehicle.  

During the search, officials say 1,250 bags of heroin and a small amount of marijuana were found prompting them to place Peirce under arrest.

The 31-year-old was taken to the Worcester County Sheriff's Office and charged with possession of heroin, possession with the to distribute heroin, and importation of heroin.

Pierce was committed to the Worcester County Jail on a $65,000 bond.
