Sussex Co. Foster Parent Association collecting school supplies for foster care children

A local organization in Sussex County is trying to collect school supplies for foster care children.

Sussex County Foster Parent Association is collecting necessities for over 150 foster children heading back to school.

A big reason for this drive is the expense on foster parents. We're told some children get placed into care the week before school or even the day of so many are stuck suddenly rushing to get supplies.

Beyond that, it provides children some empowerment. President of the association, Rhonda McDowell Cipolla says many of the children come into care without anything so this gives them something of their own.

Drop-off locations are at the Car Store in Laurel and Atlantic Finance in Delmar. They'll be accepting donations until August 6.

We're told the association plans to host a carnival to hand out the donations on August 13, but they still need community sponsors. If you want to be a community sponsor, you can e-mail McDowell Cipolla at fosterdelaware@gmail.com
