Suspect sought in connection with Del. attempted robbery

Troopers are searching for a suspect after they say he tried to rob a man using a screwdriver in Delaware.

Delaware State Police say on June 29, around 10:30 PM, an attempted burglary happened after a man agreed to give the suspect a ride home from the Harrington Casino. Troopers say the 59-year-old Bridgeville man reported  that he was at the casino when he saw an acquaintance and engaged in a conversation. DSP says the the Bridgevile man reported that the acquaintance asked him for a ride home as he indicated that his vehicle would not start.

The 59-year-old had reportedly attempted to assist with starting the vehicle, which was unsuccessful. 

Authorities say the Delaware man headed southbound on South Dupont Highway (Rt. 13), when he was directed by the individual to the back roads in the Harrington/Farmington area. According to the report, while stopped on the roadway, the victim stated that the suspect  held a screwdriver to his neck and demanded money. A struggle reportedly ensued and police say the victim was able to take the screwdriver away from the suspect.

Law enforcement says the suspect then fled from the vehicle and the scene in an unknown direction.

According to DSP, the suspect is described as standing 5'05" tall, weighing 135-150 lbs., with black hair shaved on the sides and pulled back into a ponytail. Troopers say the suspects's vehicle was described as a older model red or burgundy colored passenger car with a black hood.
