Showell Elementary plans to build a brand new state-of-the-art facility

Worcester County officials are hoping students at Showell Elementary will finally be getting the school building they deserve.
The plan is for a new state-of-the-art facility to built right behind where the current school is. The overall cost for the new building is expected to be about $47 million.
Showell received approval from the Board of Education but now they need approval from the county commissioners, who act as the the funding agency.
We're told the building is out of date has a variety of problems including mechanical problems and electrical systems.
Lou Taylor, Worcester County Superintendent says, "With the make-up of the facility itself, it's a feel good for kids. We can perform at a high-level and they can perform at a high-level."
Taylor says they hope to be approved by August and plan to start construction in October. If everything goes as planned, they expect to open their doors by 2020.
