Maryland Department of Aging Secretary Rona Kramer says, "Everyone wants to stay in their home near their family near their friends their surroundings that are comfortable."

The state department is assisting low-income seniors who need a little help with retirement planning.

They believe seniors deserve the right to live, and age, at home without worrying about expensive assisted living prices.

Secretary Rona Kramer says nursing home costs alone can range between 80-90 thousand a year.

"They can pass down their assets to children and grandchildren which is what everyone wants to do."

The state also wants seniors to know many of them can also qualify for things like free Consultations on how to improver their care and quality of life.

Kramer also says,  "Its so important for us to bring services that make it easier for our senior citizens to stay at home."

Services like home delivered meals to seniors five days a week and round trip transportation services provided by the delmarva community service center.

The people we spoke with say the extra coverage provided by the department gives them a peace of mind.

Joan Norman, a Cambridge resident said, "When you're at home, you're not alone at home."

Flora Luthy another resident said, "When you're living by yourself to have that service is wonderful.
