Relief is on it’s way for local farmers impacted by retaliatory tariffs

The USDA  has announced 12 billion dollars worth of funding for farms that have been impacted by the retaliatory tariffs between China and the U.S.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue,  says this is a short term strategy to protect farmers and assist them after the disruption of the market.

Baxter Farms, a farm out of Georgetown, says one thing that helped protect Delmarva farmers is growing multiple crops. That way their sole income doesn't rely on just soybeans.

Nonetheless local farmers say this relief effort is good news for local farmers.

"I think I can speak for most farmers in the area, none of us like receiving a handout, but at the same time we want to make sure we can keep our family and businesses viable, so a little bit of help can go a long way her," says Jay Baxter, the Farm Manager at Baxter Farms Inc.
