Rails to Trails phase two project construction

The Town of Milton is looking to revitalize their Downtown with a 1.2 million dollar Rails to Trails phase two project.

The project is part of the town's 2017 comprehensive development plan to replace abandoned rails with trails.

The idea is to connect the Downtown area with other parts of town. Officials said they are now looking to add 1,600 feet of trail onto what's already been built.

They are hoping to build between Federal Street and Lavinia Street starting in the spring of 2019.

"It's connectability wanting the whole community to be connected and to be able to walk Downtown or bike to have events that can take place on the railway," said the Milton Town Manager, Kristy Rogers.

"It's a great way to use already cleared out space that we aren't really using anymore," said Richard Broadbent, a Milton resident.

According to Rogers, 80 percent of the project is being funded by the Delaware Department of Transportation. The other 20 percent is being handled by the town.
