Officials: Several fireworks-related incidents happened in Del. on Independence Day

Delaware authorities say they investigated several fireworks-related incidents throughout the day, on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the Office of the State Fire Marshal says they investigated the following incidents involving fireworks during the 24-hour period of July 4, 2018:

•    Magnolia, DE:  Fountain fireworks ignited combustibles inside a trash dumpster.
•    Harrington, DE:  Sparklers ignited combustibles inside an exterior trash can.
•    Camden, DE:  Sparklers ignited grass in the rear of the home.

Officials say they investigated a total of five incidents. The other incidents apparently involved ground-type fireworks that were discarded into a trash can outside and the fireworks then ignited in the trash, burning the vinyl siding off of the house.  Officials say another incident involved fireworks discharging inside an occupied apartment building.

According to authorities, all fireworks are now prohibited in the State of Delaware until the next 30 day sale period which is December 1, 2018 – January 1, 2019.  The allowable fireworks can only be used on December 31 and January 1.
