A man remains in custody after police say he was involved in a burglary that happened in Lewes.

The Lewes Police Department says on July 16, around 5:00 PM, David Honeycutt entered the Lewes Yacht Club, in the 2700 block of Cedar Avenue, while the club was open for business. Once inside, police say Honeycutt went into the area where club employees stored personal items and removed three employee purses and took property from them.  Officers say he was then scared off by a club employee and fled the scene.

Authorities report that with the assistance of the Delaware State Police and Yacht Club surveillance video, police positively identified Honeycutt as the perpetrator.

Honeycutt was arrested while at the Sussex Correctional Institute on DSP charges and charged with one count of burglary third degree, three counts of theft and two counts of criminal mischief.

He remains jailed at SCI with a $6,200 secured bail.
