DPH seeks public input on Delaware statewide health assessment

Health officials in Dover need your help identifying the main health needs of residents in the first state.   The Delaware Division of Public Health has put together a Statewide Health Assessment to examine the overall health of the states population. Officials say the ultimate goal of this assessment is to develop strategies to address critical health needs in the state. Main health issues experts have found so far include chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, mental health, and substance abuse. But health employees still want to hear your thoughts.

"Because of the agriculture corn and the soy bean when you have asthma like I do they don't mix together because it takes away your oxygen. The more our state knows about the issues with asthma and heart disease and things of this nature the better off I think our residents will be," said Dover resident Joyce Williams.

After receiving public comments officials say they will work to develop strategies and goals to address Delaware's major health needs. They add that they want to know what's important to you and that all residents should have the opportunity to provide input on the issues that are closest to their hearts.
