Dover officials offer safety tips for 4th of July activities

"The world is a little bit more dangerous than I believe it used to be," said Dover resident Marie Kozel.

In just a few hours people across the country will be decked out in red white and blue celebrating all that the Fourth of July has to offer. But while you're taking part in the festivities the boys in blue will be working around the clock to make sure you stay safe this holiday.

"We take precaution in terms of traffic safety and security we provide officers and cadets to provide event management and security for gatherings such as the Fourth of July celebrations," said Master Corporal for the Dover Police Department Mark Hoffman.

In Dover, the city has a jammed-pack schedule full of fourth of July events for families, tourists and residents alike to enjoy. And event organizers say they're working closely with emergency officials to  make sure everything runs smoothly.

"The committee that works on this they are very well in tune with the police department and all of the other officials that it takes to make sure that we have a safe environment for everyone to view fireworks and also first responders to get there Incase there was an emergency," said Operations and Program Manager for the Downtown Dover Partnership Tina Bradbury.

Dover officials say with any large event, or large gathering of people, there's always a possible risk for something to happen. Whether they're dealing with a medical emergency, or something as extreme as a terrorist attack they say they're ready to handle it all.

"Dover offers a wonderful holiday to share with the entire community but safety has got to be one of the top concerns for all of us," said Kozel.

"They're expectant of these things they're prepared and trained to ensure that they're well and able to handle a situation if it arises," said Bradbury.

Police are also asking for help from the community to stay vigilant and report any questionable behavior to ensure you have a safe and happy Independence Day.

"See something say something pretty much for everything anything that's suspicious anything that's harming to anybody," said Dover resident Malachi Vicks.

And as you know we've been dealing with some intense heat these past couple of days, and tomorrow won't be much better. So officials are recommending that you continue to stay hydrated throughout the day.

And again, they can't stress enough that if you do witness any suspicious activity to notify you're local law enforcement as soon as possible.
