A Delaware man was charged after police say he harassed a tenant by asking them to go out with him on a date.
The Milford Police Department says on Thursday, 71-year-old David Kenton of Milford turned himself in to police in connection with a harassment investigation. Police say on July 11, they received a complaint of harassment from a victim alleging that their landlord, Kenton, had been harassing them. According to the report, the victim told police that for months they received multiple text messages from Kenton asking them to go out with him on a date.
Authorities say the victim reported that each time they refused the 71-year-old threatened to evict them, and would put a note of eviction on their door. After further investigation, officers say they found probable cause to request an arrest warrant, and obtained one from the Justice of the Peace Court 2.
Kenton is charged with harassment and his bail was set at $500 unsecured. He was also given a no contact order with the victim.
The Milford man is scheduled to appear at the Sussex Court of Common Pleas on August 27.
