Community gets creative for annual Doo-Dah Parade

All across Delmarva people celebrated Wednesday, but few events held can match the uniqueness of the Doo-Dah Parade in Lewes.

The parade features residents in cars, on bikes or on foot everything decorated to the nines.

But what's really interesting about this parade is how it got all got started.

We're told this huge event began with a mom, her three kids, and a few pots and pans about four decades ago.

And over time, the community began to embrace the patchwork parade

"We started to chip in food and hot dogs and things and it just grew from that.  And people from all over the town decorated their bicycles and their cars," said event founder Phyllis Hoenen.  "I didn't advertise, except telling people come get in the parade, come get in the parade."

Wednesday's celebrations ended with the first-ever sanctioned fireworks display from a barge in the Delaware Bay.
