Car show raises funds to help local families with children at A.I. duPont Hospital

Having a child on the road to recovery at Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital in northern Delaware can be a challenge for southern Delaware families, so a car show in Lewes was put on today to help some of those families out.
Everyone who attended the Cars and Coffee fundraiser donated $20, all of which will be distributed to the families of southern Delaware children who are experiencing prolonged medical stays at the hospital.
The funds will help those families with everything from gas, to oil changes, anything to help out these local families during their time of need.
"At the last car show we raised some money for Leukemia Lymphoma Society," said David Repass, owner of the Lewes Meineke. "And so we were looking for a new cause, and AI duPont, the families that are driving back and forth, it's a hardship sometimes. Just the fuel mileage and the fuel back and forth, so yea hopefully this will help them."
Sunday's event was just part of a string of fundraisers put on at the Lewes Meineke, the last fundraiser raised about a thousand dollars to help with the Lymphoma Leukemia Society.
We're told the next phase of the fundraiser involves dropping the coffee portion of the name and rebranding the event to be called Cars for a Cause.
"The last one we did several events, but this one was close to $1,000," said Dr. Beshara Helou, a co-organizer of the event with Georgetown Medical Associates. "We're trying to increase it more and more. We tell people we bring the food and the drinks and the doughnuts and the bagels, and we tell people actually all admission fees a hundred percent goes toward the cause that we are vouching for."
We're told these fundraisers for local families will be happening on a more regular schedule moving forward. Organizers tell us the fundraisers will now be happening every four to six weeks .
