Blood Bank of Delmarva still in need of critical blood type

Earlier this summer we reported to you that the Blood Bank of Delmarva was in critical need of blood donations. The organization declared a blood emergency saying that their blood supply was alarmingly low. Members say people are less likely to donate blood over the summer due to families taking vacations and schools being out on break. But since declaring the emergency officials say they've seen an up-tick in blood donations, but they're still in need of one very critical blood type.

"For some blood types we're still very below a seven day supply especially for O Negative blood. O Negative blood donors, their blood is really considered a universal blood type which means that it can be transfused to all patients. O negative is really the most critical I think that we need to have on our shelf at all times," said director of donor recruitment and marketing Karesa Fleary. In an effort to get more people to donate blood during these summer months officials are offering a special incentive. People who donate blood at any of the Blood Bank of Delmarva locations from now until September 30th will be entered for a chance to win a trip for four to Disney World.
