Officials in Delaware are trying to help low-income children get the supplies they need before school starts.
It's called "Adopt-A-Student" and its a partnership between The Department of Health and Social Services and the Human Services Council Inc.
Officials are asking residents, businesses, and organizations to donate backpacks and school supplies as well as $50 gift cards to retail stores that carry school uniforms.
Governor John Carney has backed the program and says:
"I urge Delawareans to donate to Adopt-A-Student so our most vulnerable students are ready to take that next step toward success."
To get involved you can contact the Adopt-A-Family office for Kent and Sussex counties at 302-424-7260 or E-mail elizabeth.senato@state.de.us.
