Accomack County man dead after Va. crash involving horse

An Accomack County man died after police say a crash involving two vehicles and a horse happened earlier this week, in Virginia.

Virginia State Police says on Tuesday, around 9:00 PM, a two-vehicle accident involving a horse happened on northbound Route 13, south of Birdsnest Drive, in Birdsnest, VA. Troopers say a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle and 2005 Hyosung motorcycle were traveling on northbound Route 13 when a loose horse entered the highway, traveling westbound. Authorities say the animal was then hit by the driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle.

According to the report, 26-year-old Shawn Michael Simpson, of Painter, was instantly killed. Troopers report that the other driver, Constante Nicholas Stephano attempted to avoid the crash and laid down the bike further down the road. VSP says Stephano was flown to Norfolk Sentara Hospital with serious injuries. The horse apparently died at the scene.

Authorities say alcohol nor speed were a factor in the accident.
